So, with all that incredible "stuff" surrounding us, and with the never ending "aha" moments where we absolutely "get" or understand some concept we have previously missed, why are there days where I feel I know absolutely NOTHING? Does anyone else feel that way? Some days I feel on top of the world and I get all the spiritual concepts and I'm seeking joy at every level; the next morning I wake up and, for no apparent reason, sometimes (not counting days where something specific happens) I feel as if the world is moving without me and I fell off the train somewhere. WOW! What happens? The short and easiest answer is "I don't know". Part 2 of that answer "I don't have to know".
My friends all know I am a HUGE, I MEAN REALLY HUGE, John Denver fan. One of my favorite songs of his is LOOKING FOR SPACE. I'd like to share some of the lyrics with you; these lyrics helped me to realize that many of us go through these moments, these days. They are a part of the human experience.
"On the road of experience, I'm trying to find my own way. Sometimes I wish that I could fly away. When I think that I'm moving, suddenly things stand still. I'm afraid 'cause I think they always will"
"And I'm looking for space and to find out who I am. And I'm looking to know and understand! It's a sweet, sweet dream...sometimes I'm almost there! Sometimes I fly like an eagle and sometimes I'm deep in despair"
"All alone in the Universe, sometimes that's how it seems. I get lost in the sadness and extremes. Then I look in the center, suddenly everything's clear. I find myself in the sunshine and my dreams. (Repeat of chorus)
"On the road of experience, join in the living day. If there's an answer, it's just that it's just that way. When you're looking for space and to find out who you are. When you're looking to try and reach the stars... It's a sweet, sweet, sweet dream! Sometimes I'm almost there...sometimes I fly like an eagle, sometimes I'm deep in despair! Sometimes I fly like an eagle, like an eagle, I go flying high"
That song was written in 1976. John Denver dealt with the same "stuff" we do ~ so certain some days that we understand, so sure the next that we don't. Now, I do not fall deep in despair, I am blessed that my knowledge and faith keep me from going that far down; having said that, I do experience frustration, and "what the hell?" moments just like everyone else. My words of wisdom and inspiration for you when that happens...Welcome to being human!!
